A swimming pool’s finish is what transforms it from fine to Fabulous. The color, texture and luminescence will transform your swimming pool from a two dimensional body of water to a visual masterpiece.
I personally own a custom vinyl liner swimming pool. One of the main factors in my decision was the water table in the ground of my neighborhood. But as a vinyl pool owner I cannot begin to tell you how many exciting choices you will have, they range from traditional all the way to a new flagstone look. The computer generated graphics are completely realistic. The benefit to a liner is that if you tire of the look in a few years, changing it out is comparatively inexpensive and minimally invasive. The liner companies will keep your swimming pools dimensions on file for your convenience. So if you are a person that loves change and keeping up with trends this may be a good cost effective choice for you.
If you have selected gunite then the world is your oyster. You can choose to color your plaster. If so, please ask your builder to add some quartz or marble to the mix, by doing so you will add the sparkle and depth that you are expecting from your water and lights. Another choice is tile. Tile today comes in an endless range of motifs from color rich traditional to translucent contemporary glass. My suggestion is to repeat the architectural design of your home and or region. Refer to the tile in your kitchen or bath if they have been recently updated. If you are more conservative and do not wish to renovate often. And finally, my favorite, glass beads and pebble finishes in my opinion are timeless and add a super huge “wow factor”. I would use them alone without any tile, but they could be used below the water line with your tile above, if you are going all out.
Note: Please consider how bright your backyard is before deciding on your color palette. Think of it this way-the same paint color does not look the same in different rooms of your house, especially if you are considering darker colors.
When deciding on a pool surface you will want to consider the price of the surface, and whether it is a viable option with your pool type. Whether the surface is durable, how long it will last and how much it will cost to repair or replace are other important things to consider. The color, texture, resistance to fading and how it affects pool chemistry as well as its ability to be cleaned are all crucial aspects requiring consideration.
