Selecting your Swimming Pool's Profile

Choosing your swimming pool’s profile
What is you pool’s profile?   It is the depth of your swimming pool.  It seems to be the one topic that is neglected during the selection process while home owners are designing their swimming pools. If you have been following along in this blog series, you may have already heard me speak on this subject.  I feel it is important enough to mention again.  I made our swimming pools deep end too big.  Said another way I gave up to much of my swimming pools real estate to deep water.  As I have experienced and learned after my pool’s construction, your swimming pool guests will spend ninety percent of their time in 4 1/2 feet of water or less.  Think about it;  how do most people use their swimming pool:  playing with their children, adults standing around cooling off and talking, playing catch/volleyball/basketball, water aerobics, cuddling and lounging. All of these activities require that your feet to touch bottom. On the other hand if your swimming pool is going to be used primarily for diving, water slides and the extravagant rock climbing walls, you will require a larger portion of your swimming pool to be deeper.  So my recommendation is that you sit down and talk with your entire family and think through each member’s swimming pool expectations of use.  Think of your pool and it’s size and divide it into proportions by percent of time used. And discuss your wants in depth (ha- no pun intended) with your builder.
