I chose the salt water system that you have probably heard of or read about… and I love it! We simply dump some bags of salt into the pool a couple times a year and the equipment turns that salt into chorine and releases it back into the pool as it needs it. I know this is the over simplified version, but that is all I have to do. I have loved it because it has been gentle on our eyes, doesn’t fade out or cause our bathing suits to stretch over time and my daughter’s hair has never turned green. That being said, it does cause the stone I chose for my swimming pool stairs to break down and release some sand into the pool. I have remedied the problem by keeping a slip proof water seal on them- it works. But if I had known this prior, I may have selected a harder stone for my steps. Also salt systems may have some effect on the metal building materials underground if you have tons of splashing going on. Ask your builder if this system is right for you.
Other choices include: Nature 2, Mineral, copper, ozone and from what I have heard a very expensive ultraviolet treatment system. I will try to get more information on these systems as we go forward.
